Why Use?

Annual salary to hourly rate

To calculate your hourly rate from an annual salary, divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. If you don't know this figure, you can work it out by multiplying the hours you work each week by the number of weeks you work per year (typically 52).

Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)

Example: If you earn $50,000 and you work a 40-hour week for 52 weeks per year, your hourly rate calculation would be:

50000 ÷ (40 × 52) = $24.04 per hour

To work out your daily pay, simply multiply your hourly pay figure by the number of hours you work per day.

Monthly wage to hourly rate

If you have a monthly salary figure and want to work out your hourly rate, start by multiplying the monthly salary figure by 12 (giving you your annual salary). Then divide that figure by your total annual hours (hours per week multiplied by weeks per year).

Hourly rate = (Monthly salary × 12) ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)

Example: If you earn $3,000 per month and work a 40-hour week for 52 weeks per year, your calculation would be:

(3000 × 12) ÷ (40 × 52) = $17.31 per hour

Weekly pay to hourly rate

If you have a weekly pay figure and want to calculate your hourly rate, simply divide it by the number of hours you work each week.

Hourly rate = Weekly pay ÷ Hours per week

Example: If you earn $800 per week and work a 40-hour week, your hourly rate calculation would be:

800 ÷ 40 = $20.00 per hour

Let's look at some common, round salary figures and their equivalent hourly pay rates.

Weeks worked per year

As part of our hourly conversion calculator, we include an option to change the number of weeks worked per year. The standard (and default) value is 52 because annual salaries typically include paid holiday time. However, if you want to exclude unpaid time off from your calculation, you might set this to 47-49 weeks (52 weeks minus your unpaid time off).
